Basketball has always been part of my identity. I immediately jumped at the chance to become the team's PR intern during the 2011-2012 season. The Magic were experiencing a turning point in franchise history. Their star player demanded a trade mid-season. The same season the team hosted the 2012 NBA All-Star Game. I was given a crash course on crisis comms and experienced what happens behind closed doors.
I took lead in developing a comprehensive social media plan for the team during an era when social media was still relatively new. Responsibilities included building internal audits on social media practices, sharing stats & analytics with media outlets and opposing teams on game days, and contributing social content during All-Star Weekend. This role set the stage for producing social content for brands to come.
